Low-income single moms have been signing up for child support in dwindling numbers over the past two decades, citing wonderfully positive reasons including that their co-parent cares for the children and he already pays what he can. Higher income moms are on child support in higher numbers than ever.

Single moms and child support: Not what you assume

Single, low-income moms are not signing up for child support, and this is a very good thing. Less formal child support means more and improved co-parenting, higher rates of father involvement, better child outcomes and increased gender equality.
