Zombie theory: Women file for divorce because men are horrible
Fact: Lesbians divorce at the highest rate of all marriages
Recently, a reporter at one of the largest newspapers in the world interviewed me about her understanding that equal parenting laws in Kentucky mean fewer female violence victims file for divorce for fear of co-parenting with violent men.
Her source for this supposed trend was administrators of domestic violence shelters. There are no such shelters exclusively for men in the United States.
I offered to introduce her to Denise Hines, a leading researcher on male victims of intimate partner violence. [Highlight from Hines’s new meta-study highlight: Men are about 50% of intimate partner violence victims and more likely to be victims of extreme violence.]
No, the reporter said. “That is getting into the weeds. I am only interested in female victims since they file 70% of divorces.”
